2012 SCHA Public Meetings

March:  Joint meeting with Barrie Historical Association featured author Christine Cowley on “Butchers Bakers and Building the Lakers”, a history of Collingwood.

April:  Presenter Larry Cotton, author of “Whiskey and Wickedness” featured the establishment of Oro Township in the pre-confederation era.

May:  The 2012 AGM, silent auction and dinner with guest speaker Dr. Ken Weber:   “Why Canadian History Isn’t Boring”.

September:  Speaker Adrian Bowles presented “The Paths of Leslie M. Frost and George McLean”, an analysis of correspondence to their families showing parallel lives of honour and duty circa WWII.  Adrian Bowles was the recipient of the 2012 SCHA Andrew Hunter Essay award.

October:  Speaker Dorothy Duncan author of “Hoping for the Best, Preparing for the Worst” featured a discussion of life in Upper Canada during the War of 1812.

November:  Author Ted Barris presented “Behind the Glory”, the Commonwealth Air Training Program during WW2 featuring video of flight instructors and training
